September 4, xxxx. Officer Lane came into the office just after cleaning and reported someone wanted to relinquish their dog but they couldn't wait and wouldn't wait until we opened at 11:00 a.m. In walked Marv. His history: originally picked up as a stray 4/24/13 around the 200 block of West Taylor. I'm sure the person that called it in because he was sitting on the porch at the door actually owned the dog but there isn't proof. After having him almost 3 months, the shelter used donation money to pay for his neuter, microchip and rabies vaccination so that he would be adopted. And he was adopted, July 29, xxxx, August 13, xxxx, September 6, xxxx and November 7, xxxx. He was returned for various reasons including: the neighbor's hated the friendly dog and were shooting him with bb's, another owner ended up in jail, he is too hyper and breaks his chain. A shelter favorite among the staff and volunteers and named by Megan's children (I had to call Megan as soon as he returned) this dog is happy to be home and is as crazy as always. He still likes to flip his food ball and slide it around like a hockey puck. He gets along with other dogs, is housebroken and chases cats. He is very kid-friendly and an overall goofy, fun-loving canine. If you are blue, this dog will cheer you up. An update from 8/23, the husband came into the shelter hours after the wife relinquished him and said he realize he over-reacted and that the family, especially the kids, adore the dog and that it was only a deer head and he re-adopted him. Last night, August 29, animal control was called out to the residence that there had been problems at that house (not related to Marv whatsoever) but the dog needed to be returned to the shelter where he can be cared for. He is back and we're hoping someone out there will see what we see, a fun lovng, big hearted fully vetted, housbroken and free mix. chris 8/23/xxxx - Tomorrow would be Marv's four month anniversary when he was picked up as a stray. Today he was brought back. My stomach aches...when "boss" saw him he said "please, I hope he is here for a visit." When his human mother was crying we knew otherwise. The story goes that they had just moved. Her husbands beloved deer head that he got when he was 13 years old was on the floor (not mounted yet). Marv started chewing on it. The husband warned his wife that the dog BETTER not be at the shelter when he gets home. She was broken hearted and I know her daughter that slept with this dog every night will be devastated also. Of course, being the "momma" that I am I had to ask where was this deer head? When she said one the floor I was all over that one. Yep, she agreed with me with what I told her -- it was her HUSBAND'S fault, not Marv's. She's so upset so I couldn't get mad at her but her husband....argh. She is hoping to convince him to come back and get him, but it doesn't help that we are packed full of dogs. The good news (if there is any) is that he is HOUSEBROKEN. The owner went to jail, his wife can't take care of the dog and the young children with their activities. They had been chaining the dog outside because they have been gone so much. She reported when he was inside he didn't have any accidents. He tried to play with their kitten but the kitten wanted NO part of that! So, we will try try again! 7/17/13 - Thank you to some monetary donations Marv is currently at Pets Alive Spay/Neuter Clinic getting neutered and his rabies vaccination.
